Weather Approved: What the Men at PFW taught me about outerwear

Unpopular Opinion: Winter is a better season than summer. With winter, there are limitless excuses for staying in on a saturday night when all you really want to do is sleep for 14 hours straight. With winter comes christmas and family and friends, with winter comes appreciating the little things you once took for granted like heat and the coziest sweater you own. The most important tidbit that I love about winter is the amount of layers you can wear! With winter let your inhibitions free, pair that dress with a sweater on top, your favorite denim shirt jacket, a scarf, and of course an outerwear piece for good measure. It’s finally acceptable because its cold!

The men at PFW did not shy away from their appreciation of a solid outerwear piece. Here are some shots that inspired me to up the ante when it comes to which coats I buy, plus gave me some tips on how to style the ones I already own.

Layering is an essential art that Teo Van den Broeke has clearly mastered. Not only does it ensure that you are weather appropriate, but it also oozes both grace and nonchalance when done correctly. Take a cue from the boys and play up your basics by layering them all together. A simple white tee, denim top and black jacket have never looked better.

Kenji Cheung has reminded me that sometimes it pays to suit up. A structured coat paired with other tailored pieces is the easiest way to look put together in a pinch. Plus you’ll be warm!

A hooded poncho might be the perfect outerwear piece. They’re ideal for rain, wind, and adding some shape to an otherwise streamlined outfit. Pair yours with a fedora like Instagram user tallents did here. A baseball cap would also look great if that’s more your vibe.

Another guy, another all black outfit with sunglasses. This time Jack Guiness breaks up the black with various shades of gray. Trust me, a black coat and grey scarf can get you through all types of weather.

Sometimes you have to go big or go home with your outerwear pieces. Louis Ribi decided to go enormous with this beautiful flowy two toned trench coat. Get yourself a statement coat and remember that fashion should be fun! (even if you hate the winter)

How are you going to have fun with your outerwear this season?
